since i'll need couple hours to get the interface design polished before it's official announce, i shall be revealing this short movie clip as a sneak-peek towards my whole interface design's mood and design expirience. Enjoy and do give some feedbacks as well =p [its done]

Brief introduction

My subject on development is about the legends of 'siren'.

Sirens, in most sources are being described as seductresses who lived on an island called Sirenum Scopuli. Sirens were described to appear in two form, one with wings and feather, or harpy-like form; and one with fish-like tail, mermaid form.

Through my research, there are no actual records on the encounter of siren so the appearance of siren still remained a mystery.

For the module of my interface design, i've been trying various approach in order to materialize the tale. This module has also became my very fundamental aim of what i am trying to reach out to my audience. Therefore, i'd finally came out bringing my design theme 'realism' as my major art direction.

In this form of my design, i've made a fusion between ancient mythical form of folklore and a story setting based around the 1920's whereby photography has gone through a drastic evolution regarding on its potential of mobility.

From this little interface design of mine, i am confidence with my creation which it could really take you on a realistic journey experience towards the whole encounter of siren in a diary reading form.

Next on, below will be my actual interface design. Some scene or pages may be highly navigate-able, but due to .jpg restriction it may not display the fullest experience for my design. Regarding this user-test, i shall also upload certain audio files for further mood enhancement.

I sincerely urge fellow viewers to give out your precious comments and to answer all the questions below based on your very original point of view. Exclusive for our fellow MM081-1 mates and lecturers and tutors, yours comments are really really important for my desire of improvement.

Main Page

My main page design lead through by the view of a diary's "serenade of the seas" cover. The setting of the scene was on a discussion table of the captain's vault inside a ship. It was dark and stormy, frame one and frame two are the frames that switch simultaneously for the first few seconds to express the kind of lightning effect of the surrounding. Then, moving towards the third frame indicates there was an oil lamp being lit on as there was some vivid glow on the edges over the top right corner. Clicking the sheet of memo on the right side of the note would eventually bring the audience to the following page.

Loading Page

Frames above are the loading sequence after first page. The link between two interchange is that the vivid glow from the diary shows that somehow could be somewhere nearby the oil lamp in the loading page. Top frame indicates 0% while the mid and bottom frames indicate 50% and 100% respectably. As it ran out of kerosene, a sound effect of snapping matchstick could be heard second before proceeding towards next page. click below's action for the actual flow of experience

Navigation Page

As soon as the striking sound goes off, the scene revealing its surrounding slowly from a total darkness to a page with map and a piece of note stuck in it. From this page onwards the cursor we normally seen is now in a form of a hand holding a matchstick. The radial shade and light are aliased with the movement of audience's cursor, the hand. While being explorative, the lighting effect i really want to express is that it made the whole experience not only can be realistically felt but also having a mysterious mood at the same time. There were few island on the map which can be triggered as in frame three above. Rollover of other triggers will be update soon.

Character Page : Sir Xavier Denvus

In this page, the main concern of it is showing the viewer of the owner/writer of the diary, Sir Xavier Danvus himself, which is the character page. I do not indicate it as character page because as i mentioned before, it suppose to look and feel like a diary itself. For the informations, i'd left an old random manuscript and will eventually update it momentarily.

Right page of the diary shows the achievements, photographs for a built up on the characteristics of the owner. There is a "next " button in a symbol of ">" by the very right bottom edge of the diary to proceed to the next page.

Character Page Two : Siren

Sir Xavier Danvus had been a photograph enthusiast for quite some time. In this diary, he captured the appearance of siren through his polaroid. However, although he made a direct shoot, the photographs were somehow experiencing disturbance. Were these merely coincidence? Or it has to do with the saying that capturing a view of these mythical beings is forbidden? However, Sir Xavier still expressed the look of siren in sketches.

The types of this page will be update momentarily.

couple things i have to clarify :

i. for not being active in blogging was purely i myself do not have the initiative to keep on. I hate to type.

ii. for not being active in this blog too has nothing to do with all the crap i mentioned before, no time , no mood, no nothing for god sake's reason.

iii. for not uploading my colour palettes completely has nothing to do with the broadband service and it was only because of my impatience to wait for the uploading sequence.

Sleepy Hollow - Folklore, Myths & Legends

The story is set circa 1790 in the Dutch settlement of Tarry Town, New York, in a secluded glen called Sleepy Hollow. It tells the story of Ichabod Crane, a lean, lanky, and extremely superstitious schoolmaster from Connecticut, who competes with Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, the town rowdy, for the hand of 18-year-old Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer. As Crane leaves a party he attended at the Van Tassel home on an autumn night, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, who is supposedly the ghost of a Hessian trooper who had his head shot off by a stray cannonball during "some nameless battle" of the American Revolutionary War, and who "rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head". Ichabod mysteriously disappears from town, leaving Katrina to marry Brom Bones, who was "to look exceedingly knowing whenever the story of Ichabod was related".

In Argonautica (4.891-919) Jason had been warned by Chiron that Orpheus would be necessary in his journey. When Orpheus heard their voices, he drew out his lyre and played his music more beautifully than they, drowning out their voices. One of the crew, however, the sharp-eared hero Butes, heard the song and leapt into the sea, but he was caught up and carried safely away by the goddess Aphrodite.

Odysseus was curious as to what the Sirens sounded like, so, on Circe's advice, he had all his sailors plug their ears with beeswax and tie him to the mast. He ordered his men to leave him tied to the mast, no matter how much he would beg. When he heard their beautiful song, he ordered the sailors to untie him but they stuck to their orders (or they couldn't hear him). When they had passed out of earshot, Odysseus demonstrated with his frowns to be released (Odyssey XII, 39).

Some post-Homeric authors state that the Sirens were fated to die if someone heard their singing and escaped them, and that after Odysseus passed by they therefore flung themselves into the water and perished.A varying tradition associates this event with their encounter with Jason, though the incident does not appear in Apollonius Rhodius's Argonautica. Many scholar believe the above vase depicts a drowning attempt on the part of one of the Sirens.

It is also said that Hera, queen of the gods, persuaded the Sirens to enter a singing contest with the Muses. The Muses won the competition and then plucked out all of the Sirens' feathers and made crowns out of them.

1.0 What is Isometric Pixel Art?

Pictures flowing through the medias, screens are formed by tiny little pixel. However, these do not define pixel art. Pixel art is anything drawn in the medium of computer pixels, usually created one pixel at a time.Isometric pixel art is the use of pixel art in an isometric viewpoint whereby pixel art is being created with two or more perspective views. Alternate perspective or exeggerated perspective is rarely being used because it complicates the drawing process.

Pixel art varies from other form of digital art as it is completely manual generated or drawn through a pixel-level editing of an image. In other words, pixel art does not involve image filters, automatic anti-aliasing or special rendering modes. Pixel art is often created in a close magnification.

To clarify the thin line, pixel art is commonly devided into two subcatagories: Isometric Pixel art and Planometric Pixel art. Isometric pixel art is drawn in a near-isometric/ dimetric projection. This is commonly seen in games, mobile phones/ electronic devices' GUI or to provide a three-dimensional view without using any real three-dimensional processing. However, Planometric Pixel art/ non-isometric pixel art is drawn in a form of top, side, front, bottom perspective views only.

Anti-aliasing - the technique of minimizing the distortion artifacts known as aliasing when representing a high-resolution signal at a lower resolution. Usually used for rounded edges or to create smooth blending of colours. ref. britanica.com

1.1 When was Pixel Art created?

The term pixel art was first published by Adele Goldberg and Robert Flegal of Xerox Palo Alto Research Center in 1982. The concept, however, goes back about 10 years before that allso at Xerox PARC. Some traditional art forms, such as cross-stitch, mosaic and beadwork, bear some similarity to pixel art by constructing pictures out of small colored units analogous to the pixels of modern digital computing.

1.2 How is pixel art created?

Purists create pixel art by staking pixel by pixel. Although on today's modern technology, pixel can be generated by simply a click. However, pixel art can be manually achieved through simple programmes such as MS paint or windows draw DOS 3.0 and above. Pixel art can also be created through high end programmes found such as Adobe Photoshop , PSP and more.

Part 1 - Lines

Straight Lines

With pixels, even straight lines can be problematic. "Jaggies" are little breaks in the line that make the line look uneven. Jaggies crop up when one piece of the line is larger or smaller than the surrounding pieces.

Curve Lines

For curvature, make sure that the decline or incline is consistent all the way through. In this next example, the clean-looking curve goes 6 > 3 > 2 > 1, whereas the curve with the jaggy goes 3 > 1 <>

1st Sept 08, he'd a chance to visit the country of Brunei on a ride with his folks. The area he visited was Syria, Belait and Tutong but not the city square, Bandar. Therefore not much to tell. Syria is the area of foreigners, workers in fact from other country on oil and gas sector. He found Brunei bizzare, despite the small coverage of land and well known richness of the government, Brunei remains indeveloped and '"rural". Wonder why...

It was four months back then, when he and his fellows had a trip to PutraJaya, somewhere around the northern outskirt of Kuala Lumpur. The trip was mainly for a project involved with their calligraphy class. In fact, it was his first time visiting Putra J, the upcoming area replacing the pre-booming Kuala Lumpur as city centre. Gorgeous buildings can be seen everywhere; beautiful placement planning, gardens, and even 4-5 newly built bridges. Well, it was truly a magnificent scenery. However there was a question, deep beneath his mind. Are these what suppose to be spend on or he would say sacrifice on? Such great amount of money; man-power; and yet the trusts of civilians towards their country.
